Elton John and David Furnish got married outside London on Sunday … and this time, your invitation did not get lost in the mail.
Instead, it showed up on Instagram, as did many intimate pictures of the happy couple before, during and after the ceremony.
Elton John turns Instagram into wedding album
This was the invitation that popped up on the musician’s Instagram account Saturday, with the accompanying note: “Please join us this Sunday @DavidFurnish and I will be posting special moments from our big day.”
And Sir Elton was as good as his word, with pictures popping up regularly, all leading up to the big exchange of vows and the star-studded party afterward.
“Our little ringbearers are fast asleep, and their shoes are polished and ready for tomorrow’s celebration” preceded this cozy photo of their intended footwear.
Of course, before anything could happen, the pair had to sign the appropriate documentation.
The event took place at Sir Elton’s home in Windsor, which is about 25 miles outside of London; celebrities attending included David Beckham and his wife Victoria, Elizabeth Hurley, singer Lulu, and Hugh Grant.
No secret what was on the menu — that got a starring picture on Instagram as well: beef short rib, caramelized onion pie, warm chocolate pudding and, of course, wedding cake.
Sir Elton and filmmaker Furnish were civilly committed in 2005, and have two sons: Zachary, who turns 4 on Christmas Day, and 13-month-old Elijah. The boys also got in on the Instagram fun during the ceremony, as Zachary snapped this picture of his brother and toy bunny getting a front-row view.
John and Furnish spoke with TODAY’s Matt Lauer in April, and said they were planning to wed as early as May. At the time, Sir Elton noted of the ceremony, “We’ll do it very quietly. But we will do it and it will be a joyous occasion and we will have our children.”
Elton John: ‘We will get married’
But it took until Sunday to get everything organized just right (it was also the ninth anniversary of that civil partnership, so the day held particular significance for the couple).
Now, sit back and enjoy the rest of the wedding, all laid out in Instagram glory for your enjoyment.
