The days of digging through Ben & Jerry’s cartons for those beautiful little clumps of dough may soon be a beloved pastime of yesteryear.
Well, at least if you’re a resident of the ice cream company’s home state.
The company known for its blissful pints of ice cream flavors, from Gimme S’mores to Cereal and Milk, is testing out a new frozen product at scoop s in Vermont. This time, however, it’s not ice cream.
Ben & Jerry’s announced Tuesday it would be releasing “Just the Dough” to two stores in Burlington and Waterbury, Vermont. If the dough does well locally, innovation manager Jody Eley said, the little bites “may be available online and in other distribution channels later this year.”
The snackable dough is, according to a Ben & Jerry’s release, “safe to eat raw” and recommended to be stored in the freezer. The ingredients include pasteurized eggs and heat-treated flour. Right now the two flavors available are Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Chunks and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Chunks — and they’re the same bites you’d find buried in ice cream.
Instagram fans have reacted well to the product, with a slew of “OMG” comments and an influx of emoji hearts.
Some called it a “game changer.”
“Oh good lord. I need,” another wrote.
Of course, any type of raw cookie dough should be consumed in moderation due to the risk salmonella poses in dough that has not been cooked.
For those who don’t dwell in the Green Mountain State, don’t freak out … yet. If Ben & Jerry’s get enough requests to bring the dough to other areas, the snack-sized dough bites may just land at a scoop near you. The company has made it pretty easy for you to pester the ice cream team and even set up a form on its website. So hop to, cookie monsters!
